Great news for Filipino wanderers — Taiwan has once again extended its visa-free entry program for Philippine passport holders. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines officially announced that Filipinos can continue traveling to Taiwan without a visa for stays of up to 14 days, from August 1, 2026 to July 31, 2027.
TECO described the move as a reciprocal gesture following the Philippine government's decision to continue granting visa-free entry privileges to Taiwanese visitors. It's a win-win arrangement that has been growing stronger every year — and the numbers prove it.
Why This Is Big News
Taiwan first introduced a pilot visa-free program for Filipino travelers back in November 2017. Since then, it has been renewed year after year — a strong signal of the growing travel and cultural relationship between the two countries.
The most recent data from the Taiwan Tourism Administration shows that more than 210,000 Filipino visitors traveled to Taiwan in the first quarter of 2026 alone — a remarkable 43% increase from the same period the previous year. That makes the Philippines the largest tourist market among Southeast Asian countries visiting Taiwan. Clearly, Filipinos love Taiwan, and Taiwan loves welcoming them.

Who Qualifies?
- Philippine passport holders with a valid ordinary passport

What to Prepare
- Valid Philippine passport — ensure it has at least 6 months validity beyond your planned return date

Important: Even though entry is visa-free, Taiwan immigration officers may still ask you questions at the border. Be ready to explain your purpose of visit, where you are staying, and when you are leaving.
What Can You Do in 14 Days?
Fourteen days is actually a generous amount of time to explore Taiwan. Here's a rough itinerary idea to help you maximize your trip:
Days 1–4: Taipei
Start with the capital. Visit Taipei 101, the National Palace Museum, explore the night markets at Shilin and Raohe, catch the sunrise at Elephant Mountain, and spend an afternoon in the artistic district of Ximending.
Days 5–6: Jiufen & Shifen
Take a day trip northeast of Taipei to the old mining town of Jiufen — famously said to have inspired the setting of the animated film Spirited Away. Then visit Shifen to release a sky lantern over the old railway.
Days 7–8: Taroko Gorge
Head east to Hualien and spend two days exploring one of Asia's most spectacular natural wonders — the marble cliffs, turquoise rivers, and mountain trails of Taroko National Park.
Days 9–10: Sun Moon Lake
Take the train south to Nantou and visit Sun Moon Lake — Taiwan's largest body of water, surrounded by lush mountains and indigenous Thao culture. Rent a bicycle and ride around the lake at sunrise.
Days 11–12: Tainan
Taiwan's oldest city is a food lover's paradise. Explore historic temples, old streets, and the famous Tainan beef soup and oyster vermicelli.
Days 13–14: Kaohsiung & Departure
End your trip in Taiwan's second-largest city. Visit the Lotus Pond Dragon and Tiger Pagodas, explore the Pier-2 Art Center, and fly home from Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH) if your routing allows.
Flights from Manila to Taipei
Direct flights from Manila (MNL) to Taipei (TPE) are available through Philippine Airlines, AirAsia, EVA Air, and China Airlines. Flight time is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. Cebu (CEB) also has direct connections.
The Reciprocal Arrangement
It's worth noting that this is a genuinely mutual arrangement. The Philippines also extended visa-free entry for Taiwanese passport holders — allowing Taiwanese nationals to visit the Philippines for up to 14 days under a similar program. Both governments have signaled their commitment to deepening tourism ties.
